What to wear for Family Photo Session

You booked in your session. Now you are wondering what to dressed the family in. Here are some easy tips to get you started.

DO'S

Coordinate – Don’t match! Choose complimenting colours

Neutrals and soft colours tones works beautifully

TEXTURES always photographs beautifully (such as Linen, Knits, Cotton, Lace, Chiffon, Corduroy, etc)

Muted Pastels looks just as good as a pop of primary colours if you are into them – let your personal style shines.

Consider the location of the session. For a session at a beach, then wear clothes that would look fitting to the environment.

Dress in layers. Layers add interest and also allow for removing clothing if it gets warm – Think scarfs, hats, vests, cardigans, blazers, jackets

DON’TS

No logos and large words/ pictures (especially for Dads and boys), and no florescent colours

Avoid everyone matching (eg. whole family in white shirt and denim circa 1995)

Avoid wearing the same colour shade as another member of the family (eg. both mum and son in the same shade of blue)

If possible, let’s avoid wearing black if possible ( it would look harsh on the photograph – A bit here and there is perfectly fine, but not as a large dose). Grey is more complimentary in family photos than black.

For Dads – Try not to wear business shirt, its best to stay semi casual (e.g a polo/ linen shirt).

For Mums – Keep the accessories to minimum. Simple is best.
