The Days Are Long, But…

You know that saying – The days are long, but the years are short.

It hits different when you’re knee-deep in morning tantrums and afternoon meltdowns. When you’re wiping sticky fingers and finding Cheerios in weird places. When you fall into bed thinking, “I barely survived today.”

We put off family photos because life feels messy right now. Too busy, too tired, too chaotic. Maybe when things calm down. Maybe when the house is cleaner. Maybe when everyone cooperates.

But here’s what I’ve learned as a mum and a family photographer. We’re never glad we waited. We’re always glad we didn’t.

Family Photos Aren’t About Perfection – They’re About Presence

This isn’t for your Instagram feed. It’s for your future self.

The version of you sitting in an empty nest twenty years from now. The one who would give anything to hold your toddler’s chubby hand again. To feel their head heavy on your shoulder during story time.

That version of you doesn’t care if your hair was perfect. She cares that you were there. Present. Loving. Real.

Family photography captures why family photography is important. It’s not about the pretty pictures. It’s about the proof that you showed up. Day after day.

You’re In the Photos, Too – Finally

When was the last time you were in a photo with your kids?

Not a quick selfie with questionable lighting. Not hiding behind them because you don’t like how you look. Actually in the frame. Your whole self. Your love on full display.

Mums spend so much time behind the camera. Taking photos of first steps and birthday cakes. Documenting everyone else’s moments.

But your kids need photos of you too. They need to see themselves wrapped in your arms. To remember how you looked at them like they hung the moon.

You matter in these memories. You belong in these frames.

Photos Hold the Version of You Your Kids Will Remember

Last week, I photographed a mum with messy hair and tired eyes. Her baby had been up all night. She almost cancelled.

But in those photos, all I see is love. Her gentle hands smoothing her daughter’s hair. The way she gazed at her children like they were miracles. Which they are.

This is the version her kids will remember. Not the exhaustion. Not the chaos. Just mum. The one who loved them through everything.

These are the photos that stick. The real ones. The ones that show up even when life feels overwhelming.

Your children won’t remember if your outfit was wrinkled. They’ll remember that you held them close. That you were present for the ordinary Tuesday that became precious in hindsight.

There’s Science Behind the Magic

You might already feel that family photos are more than just pretty pictures—but there’s now research to back it up.

Studies suggest that regularly viewing family photographs can actually boost a child’s emotional wellbeing, strengthen their sense of belonging, and help build a positive self-image. It tells them: You are loved. You are safe. You are part of something that matters.

That framed photo in your hallway? It might be doing more for your little one than you realise.

Photos Say “I Was There. I Loved You That Much.”

Life moves fast. Kids grow up. But photos? Photos let you hold onto the love that filled these busy, beautiful days.

The version of you that’s reading this right now knows something important. These days won’t last forever. But the memories can.

Ready to create something that lasts longer than the moment? Let’s book your family session.

I'd love to photograph your FAMILY

Some of my favourite sessions have been with families who show up just as they are. The laughs too hard, the bear hugs, the ones who celebrate the chaos of being around kids!

If you're the kind of family who loves hard and wants photos that feel as genuine as your love for each other, I’d love to add your story to the collection.
